Rains to continue in next three days - Aug 25, 2010 13:34:34

ISLAMABAD: Monsoon currents of weak to moderate intensity, penetrating upper parts of the country, will cause more rain in most parts of the country including federal capital during next 48 hours, said Met Office on Tuesday.

According to met analysis, a fresh westerly wave has approached the upper parts of the country which is likely to persist for next 2-3 days and cause thundershowers with a few heavy falls for scattered places of upper Punjab and Islamabad.

The rainfall recorded during last 24 hours was Islamabad (Saidpur) 46 mm, Rawalpindi 43 mm, Gujrat 98 mm, Saidusharif 69 mm, Jhelum 44 mm, Kohat 40 mm, Lower Dir 31 mm and Sialkot, Muzaffarabad and Risalpur 24 mm.

Meanwhile, over a dozen of trees along the nullahs in federal capital have been uprooted after recent heavy rains which have also caused huge losses in other parts of the country.

Near Zero Point, the drainage nullah fully choked with litter, which caused blockage of water and as a result over a dozen trees fall and logged water at one point.

The residents of Katchi Aabadi on edge of the nullah said the situation was worsening and it would result in collapse of their mud made houses into the nullah.

They said Capital Development Authority (CDA) should clean these nullahs to avoid environmental and health problems during monsoon.

When contacted, an official of CDA said the authorities would launch a nullahs cleanliness campaign to keep the city neat and clean and avoid any kind of environmental problems.

He appealed to the people living adjacent to nullahs not to throw garbage into nullahs, to avoid their blockage. app
