Turkish NGO providing ‘iftar’ meals to 2,200 families daily - Aug 27, 2010 16:14:38
Responding swiftly to the flood disaster in Pakistan, Kimse Yok Mu Solidarity and Aid Association — an internationally recognised Turkish humanitarian and civic assistance association accredited by the United Nations — has been channelling material and in-kind donations on behalf of the Turkish public.
The NGO is catering to 2,200 families in Charsadda, Khyber Paktunkhwa and Multan with ‘Iftar’ meals on a daily basis since August 12. Within a matter of weeks, Kimse Yok Mu aims to erect two tent cities and construct houses for the flood affectees. Within the framework of Kimse Yok Mu’s ongoing vigorous fundraising and humanitarian assistance campaign across Turkey, collected financial and in-kind donations will be swiftly delivered to Pakistan on a special flight before the Eid.
From August 16 onwards, the first consignment of relief goods sent by Turkish people amounting to 30,000 kilograms food items packed in 1,500 family bags each containing rice, pulses, sugar, vegetables, ghee, tea, spices, biscuits, dates, salt, soap, and potable mineral water was distributed by Kimse Yok Mu among the residents of the district Nowshera, one of the worst-affected regions of Pakistan.
Yet another 30,000 kilograms of food items arranged by the Kimse Yok Mu through the donations of the Turkish public will be airlifted to Pakistan and are due to arrive on August 28. This contingency will be delivered and distributed to the affectees by a 70-member Kimse Yok Mu volunteers group. On August 27, a private plane from Turkey is to airlift a cargo of 40,000 kilograms of food and clothing to be delivered to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Lahore. The cargo contains: 325 two-room tents, 325 one-room tents, 500 camp beds, 2,000 carpets, 6,000 blankets, 100 generators, 20 wireless phones, 13,000 tablets for water purification, and 180 food packets of 25 kilograms each.
Even during the 2005 Pakistan earthquake, Kimse Yok Mu emerged as an outstanding contributor from Turkey; US $4 million was given as donation to the Presidential Relief Fund and 10 state-of-the-art schools were erected and equipped in Muzaffarabad and Mansehra, in addition to erecting and maintaining three tent cities in Muzaffarabad and vicinity for six months, catering to more than 8,000 people through mobile kitchens serving three course warm meals to the affectees throughout the mentioned span. Kimse Yok has also risen to prominence in the wake of natural disasters in Ache, Indonesia and Haiti.
